The Spotlight’s On Ev

Good day lovely people! I trust you’re doing well!!

Welcome to the first post of the VENDOR SPOTLIGHT SERIES!! This series gives me the opportunity to shout out some of my favorite vendors and will hopefully help some people in their vendor search!

Today, the spotlight is on my veryyyy own co-planner and co-coordinator Ms. Evelyn Addo of Events by Ev!

Events by Ev is an event and wedding planning company. Services include full event planning, month of/day of coordination, and event decor. Events by Ev will take your Pinterest dream and make it into a budget friendly reality.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve definitely seen this lovely lady’s face. Shortly before I moved to the Bay Area, Evelyn started Events by Ev and once we moved in together, we started working together! She’s a Bay Area native and has been in the industry for about 4 years now. A fun fact about Evelyn is she is obsessed with HGTV and Food Network (I can vouch for this…lol).

See below for Evelyn’s responses to the Sugar Rush by Portia Vendor Spotlight Series Questionnaire:

What inspired you to start your business?

I’ve always been passionate about event and wedding planning. I believe I have a natural God-given talent for organizing, planning and helping others. When I was presented with the opportunity to coordinate a wedding in 2015, seeing the results of that wedding and how successful it was, I decided to pursue this as a business venture.

What is your favorite thing about event planning or coordination?

I love looking back at an event and being able to say “job well done.”

If you could give two pieces of advice to a future bride/groom, what would they be?

First will be to not skip out on hiring a wedding planner or day/of coordinator. Wedding planning involves a lot of details and wedding planners/coordinators are here to take off a lot of the load and to make your special day is as stress free as possible so that you can soak everything in. You only get married once (at least that’s the goal). Secondly will be to enjoy the planning process, if you make it fun you will less likely be overly stressed and frustrated with all the planning. You can do this by making each appointment you may have or activity you do into a little fun date. For example, if you are going cake tasting, make a day of it and have lunch before hand and the cake tasting your dessert. Another idea is with the seating chart. Putting the seating chart doesn’t have to be a daunting task if you do it together, have a bunch of healthy snacks (for the brides that are watching their figure) with drinks, sweets and music playing. Remember it’s always less stressful if you’re having fun.

If you could give two pieces of advice to someone looking to break into the wedding industry, what would you tell them?

Just go for it. I believe the fear of failure hinders most people from pursuing their passions. Honestly, once you go for it, you will realize that the fear is one of the hardest parts. And doing something you love is always worth it. Also remember Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Even though it may seem hard at times, know that there is nothing too hard for Christ and to put your trust in Him.

To close us out, can you share with us a favorite client story?

It will have to be the first wedding I did same day coordination for. I believe this wedding will always have a special place in my heart because of the fact that it was the first one. I literally came into this wedding blind because I was not involved in any aspect of the wedding and they hired me literally a couple of weeks before the wedding. I met with the couple once, got the vendor list and that was that. The day in my mind was hectic but thankfully it was not to the bride and groom and guests. Everything ended up going smoothly and the bride and groom really appreciated the fact that I was able to support them during that time so they could enjoy their day. That is why I do what I do, it brings me joy knowing I helped to bring the day that every child grows up imagining about into the special moment they will remember forever.
