What’s SugarRushbyPortia.com?

In Feb of 2019, Portia attended a wedding conference for vendors and venues in San Francisco. During a session, Portia had an “ah ha” moment. One of the speakers said “you must keep in mind that your couples have never done this before”. In her head she said, OMG this is SOOOO true! In most cases, people have never planned a wedding before and don’t know where to start. Thus, Sugar Rush by Portia was born.

Wedding and special event planning can be a daunting process for individuals who are not familiar with the industry. SugarRush by Portia is a site designed with enjoyment in mind. SugarRush by Portia provides individuals with the various tools they need to make the process a bit easier. The site originally started as a blog with tips and tricks on planning events with a special emphasis on Ghanaian traditional wedding practices. It has now blossomed into the second phase, which is the addition of a vendor portal. The vendor portal provides professional and non-professional event planners with a list of vendors that can assist in making their event a success!

Who’s Portia?

Portia A. Osei-Owusu is the founder and lead writer of SugarRush by Portia. Portia was born and raised in Los Angeles to two amazing Ghanaian immigrants who ensured that she understood and embraced the culture and traditions of their home country.

At a very young age, Portia was exposed to the world of weddings through her mother’s hobby of decorating and coordinating events. By the age of 13, she was planning weddings independently and continued to plan events through various businesses including Events by Ev and Souley Group. She has also worked in the hotel industry in different roles including event services and catering sales.

While pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations at Boston University, Portia discovered that her long-time passion in hospitality was a degree program that was being offered. She quickly added it as an additional major and after completing her bachelor’s degree, Portia earned a MBA with a concentration in Marketing at Abilene Christian University.
